Reta Underwood, a senior elder of the Turtle Mountain Band of the Chippewa, talks about the history and culture of Native Americans.

Reta Underwood is a senior elder and on her journey to 3rd Degree Midewiwin and is an enrolled member of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa. She is a storyteller and a traditional crafter, including beadwork and spirit (zaka’on) sticks. Her mission is to make known to the inhabitants of Turtle Island the Anishinaabeg way of life as the “good hearted” people, and to tell the story of who they were prior to colonization and how they exist today.

July 26, 2025: Midewiwin Medicinals – participants make their own medicine pouch and collect samples. Location: WinnRose Farm, outside of LaGrange

$15 per person, per session, recommended ages: 12 and up, participants under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Time: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. This is a brown bag lunch series, people bring their lunch, water is provided.
