There’s something new—and exciting—happening in historic downtown La Grange! Our R.A.I.L. District has officially become an Entertainment Destination Center (EDC), giving visitors a fresh way to experience local restaurants, shops, and events while enjoying the charm of Main Street.
If you’ve seen the term “EDC” around town and wondered what it means, here’s your quick, friendly guide.
What Is an EDC?
An Entertainment Destination Center allows guests to purchase an alcoholic beverage from participating downtown businesses and walk within the approved district boundaries using a specially marked cup.
This initiative helps strengthen our restaurant and hospitality scene while giving locals and visitors a more vibrant downtown experience.
Where Can You Enjoy an Alcoholic Beverage?
Alcoholic beverages bought inside the EDC must stay within the designated boundaries. Participating restaurants and bars will provide the appropriate R.A.I.L. cup for you to carry your drink as you stroll, shop, or head to another stop within the district.
When Is the EDC Active?
The R.A.I.L. EDC is open daily from 1:00 PM to 12:00 AM, offering plenty of time to enjoy an afternoon outing or evening downtown.
What You Can Do in the R.A.I.L. District
✔️ Purchase a drink from an approved business
✔️ Walk through the EDC boundaries with your official cup
✔️ Enjoy your beverage at other licensed premises within the district
✔️ Experience downtown in a fun, relaxed way during normal hours and special events
What You Cannot Do
🚫 Leave the EDC boundaries with your drink
🚫 Bring your own alcohol to walk around
🚫 Pour outside beverages into an EDC cup
🚫 Bring your R.A.I.L. cup back for another day
🚫 Buy a drink outside the district and bring it in
Doing any of these could result in being cited or arrested, so staying within the guidelines is an important part of keeping the district safe and enjoyable for everyone.
Why It Matters
This new designation brings La Grange in line with several other Kentucky communities that have adopted EDCs to help energize their downtowns. By creating a more walkable, social environment, we’re supporting local businesses while giving residents and visitors another reason to love spending time here.
